Photographing an event can be a bit stressful. It’s not going to stop for you, so you’d better be ready the first time around. If something goes wrong, well… you’re out of luck. You have no idea how often I get phone calls from my kids when I leave them…

I’ve been working on small websites for the past five or six years, and in that time I’ve used two web hosts. I started with IX Webhosting, and I left at the end of my second year. I would not recommend them at all. The next host I found, on…

But… I did finish one project. I finally got around to adding a section to my photography studio’s site for ordering comp cards. More on that later. Hurricane Irene plowed through New Jersey last night into this morning. So, instead of building the second half of my photobooth, I ended up…

A ways back, I posted some thoughts on . I didn’t get the project done in time for the party like I wanted, but I was still able to . Now that the deadline is out of the way (and a whole bunch of other craziness in my life), I…

Everything we use for the yearbook is stored on a portable hard drive. Why? It helps make the work portable. I’ve got a desktop in my classroom, a laptop, and a desktop at home. By using the portable hard drive, we can work on whichever computer is most convenient –…

There are a couple of concerns you may have when comparing different printers. But, at some point, you probably want to think about the bottom line. How much is it going to cost to print? The best way to compare printers on this metric is to devise some kind of…

I’ve been looking for a small, portable printer that I can or to print up pictures at an event. I decided to try out a Canon SELPHY CP800, and it came in the mail yesterday. For the first time, I’m actually really pleased with the results when printing pictures on…

One of the most useful accessories you can get for your digital SLR camera is a battery grip. A battery grip performs a couple functions. First, it allows you to put two batteries in the camera at the same time, effectively doubling the length of time between changing batteries. By…

About Digital Photography How To

Digital Photography How To is intended to be a guide to people learning how to use their digital SLR cameras. Three years ago, I had never picked up a camera; now, I produce a yearbook every year and I moonlight as a professional photographer.

I write this website to share what I've learned in that time. The topics will range from truly beginners topics, to tutorials for post processing, to resources for yearbook and graphic design, to thoughts on transitioning from a hobbyist to a professional. Keep up to date by subscribing to the RSS feed.
