Free InDesign Template: Basic 2 Sided Model Comp Card
The other day, I posted an InDesign template for a one sided, 4 picture model comp card. If you’re looking to save money on printing costs, going one-sided will help. But, typically, a model’s comp or zed card is a 2-sided, 5.5″ x 8.5″ card with a large headshot type photo on one side and a series of smaller images on the other.
So, if you’re looking to go the more traditional route and print 2-sided, here’s a quick and dirty InDesign template for a 2-sided design. I filled in the template with some images I had from a fashion show last March. Great event shots, not necessarily what you’d put on a comp card, but they work just fine for purposes of illustration.
Here’s the file:
The design is pretty generic. It’s supposed to be clean and simple. Name and headshot on the front, four images and stats on the back. Notice that the two image frames on the bottom of the backside are shorter due to the stat text overlapping.
As a general design note, I also included two wider-out images on the back (full body or almost) and two slightly more zoomed in images (waist up, or just underneath it). The point here being to balance out the wide shots with the zoomed shots.
As for the photography, I do like all the shots. I’m just a little annoyed with the headshot I had to use. At this particular show, I was shooting at 3200 ISO so there’s a decent amount of noise in the photos. It’s not bad with small sizes, but after I cropped the image and dropped it into a 5.5″ x 8.5″ frame, the noise is somewhat noticable. Ah well, you can’t win ‘em all.
I plan on working on another design later in the week that is a bit more… exciting? I’m going to shrink the images a little bit, and leave some area on the page for either a background color or a background image. Same basic layout, but with a little more pizzazz. I like the clean, simple look, but not everyone does. Stay tuned, and as always if you’re looking for an InDesign template for a specific purpose drop a note in the comments. I’m always looking for ideas.
