Yearbook Background – Blue-ish Purple-ish Gradient Transition
Depending on your style, you may want a colorful background for your yearbook. Trouble is, there aren’t a whole lot of freely available high resolution files around that you can use. Here’s something to help with that problem…
This is one of the backgrounds that we used in 2010. I don’t remember exactly how it started, but in the beginning it was some kind of solid colored textured image. I think I got it from sxc.hu. I then loaded it into Photoshop, took out the original color, and applied a gradient on top of the newly made black and white.

I was left with this tye-die kind of purple to blue gradient diffusion. We used it with a purple-ish color scheme – a purple banner across the top for the title and a purple box with text for the captions. Here are two pages from the book using this background. The two pages feature pictures from the homecoming ceremony during the homecoming game.
By the by, the image file is extremely large. It’s large to begin with (2550 pixels x 3300 pixels). Then I think I exported it from Photoshop at maximum quality. That probably wasn’t entirely necessary, but the file does need to be a high resolution to be printed across an 8″ x 10″ page in the yearbook.
Download the full-size image file. Note that you’ll want to flip and/or rotate the image when you use it as a background. You want the two sides to meet in some logical way in the gutter of the book.
